Once Hugh had collected himself again, and wiped his face on his sleeve, he sat up a bit. He gave Talia a weak smile. “Would you like the tour?”

Talia grinned. “Sure.”

Hugh pushed himself to his feet. “This over here is my bed. That’s my desk, and over here,” he said, pulling open his curtains, “is my window.”

He popped the window panes open as well. Talia gasped. The sun was just going down on the horizon, and the dunes of the Endless Erg hand been painted in lurid sunset shades. A sandship was just pulling into Skyhold’s port out of the Endless Erg, and a flock of drakes was playing in the air over it.

“Hugh… this is… this is…” Talia punched him in the shoulder.

“Ow! What was that for?” Hugh said.

“I’m jealous, this view is amazing! I doubt Rhodes even has a room with a window, let alone a view like this. How’d you find this place?”

Hugh told her the story of how he’d first met Alustin, then eventually found this room. He told her about the Choosing, and how he was sure that Alustin must have magicked in the bed somehow.

Then he showed her his new project. She grinned wickedly when she saw it. “Now that’s going to come in handy during our labyrinth test.” Hugh started to tell her more about it, only to be interrupted by his stomach growling.

“When’s the last time you’ve eaten, Hugh?”

Hugh, embarrassed to say he hadn’t eaten since before their fight, looked at the ground.

“The dining hall should still be open, if you want to join me,” Talia said. “I haven’t eaten anything since lunch, so I’m starving.”

Hugh nodded.

Talia chuckled, and turned towards the door. She paused before going out, though. “You should get changed before we go. Don’t take this the wrong way, but you smell really, really bad. I’ll just wait outside your door for you.”

She shut the door behind her.

Hugh sniffed at his shirt and winced.
